The Bermuda Chess Association has received a EUR 5,000 [$5860] grant from the FIDE Planning & Development Commission.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Chess Association has announced a significant boost in its efforts to promote chess education across the island, receiving a EUR 5,000 grant from the FIDE Planning & Development Commission [PDC].

“This funding is dedicated to supporting the ongoing 2025 Chess in Education initiative, a strategic project aimed at integrating chess more deeply into Bermuda’s school system.
“These funds will be used to enhance the resources available to public schools, including the procurement of essential chess equipment such as chess clocks, demonstration boards for classroom instruction, and large outdoor chess boards.
“The addition of this equipment will enable schools to implement comprehensive chess programs, fostering a greater appreciation for the game and its educational benefits among students.
“In March 2025, Bermuda celebrated a milestone as 22 educators from across the island achieved Chess School Instructor status. This achievement followed a specialized seminar hosted by the FIDE Chess in Education Commission in collaboration with the Bermuda Chess Association. The training provided these educators with the skills necessary to teach chess effectively and incorporate it as a valuable learning tool in the classroom.
“Furthermore, Bermuda has recently received a generous donation of 400 chess boards and sets from the Gift of Chess charity. This contribution will significantly expand access to chess equipment for schools and community centers, ensuring that more students can benefit from hands-on experience with the game.
“The combined efforts of equipment provision and educator training are expected to lay a strong foundation for the continued development of chess in Bermuda. These initiatives will not only enhance students’ cognitive skills, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities but will also promote inclusivity and engagement in educational activities.
“As Bermuda advances its chess in education initiatives, the support from FIDE and charitable donations underscore the island’s commitment to nurturing future generations through the timeless game of chess. The Bermuda Chess Association remains dedicated to expanding these programs, ensuring that students across Bermuda can enjoy the educational and developmental benefits that chess offers.”
