The Bermuda Chess Association held the CARIFTA Chess Qualifier tournament yesterday [Dec 1] at the Hamilton Princess, with 12 junior players from across Bermuda taking part.
A spokesperson said, “After five grueling rounds, the results were as follows:
1st place – Dimitri Gontcharov
2nd place – Ocean Simmons
3rd place – Dylan Flanagan
Age-groups were sub-sectioned with the following winners:
U-14: 1st place – Dimitri Gontcharov
U-12: 1st place – Ocean Simmons
U10: 1st place – Odin Flanagan
U8: 1st place – Dylan Flanagan
“The 2020 CARIFTA Chess Championships, the preeminent chess event for players under the age of 20 from the Caribbean region, will be held in Guyana from April 14, 2020.
