The Bermuda Chess Championship 2018 Invitation

This is the official invitation to all members of Bermuda chess federation of FIDE to participate in the Bermuda Chess Championship 2018

The championships will be held in Hamilton, Bermuda. The dates are May 1st to June 17th 2018.

Playing Venue

The games will take place in the IAS Building East, 44 Church Street East, Hamilton

No electronic devices will be allowed at the playing venue. 

Tournament schedule

Round 1: Tuesday May 1st, 7:30 pm

Round 2: Tuesday May 8th, 7:30 pm

Round 3: Tuesday May 15th, 7:30 pm

Round 4: Tuesday May 22nd, 7:30 pm

Round 5: Tuesday May 29th, 7:30 pm

Round 6: Tuesday June 5th, 7:30 pm

Round 7: Tuesday June 12th, 7:30 pm

A 5 hours written notice must be given to the Chief Arbiter when a player is unable to attend a round.

In the event that one or both players are unable to make a game, if the player(s) have provided proper notice, it will be up to the discretion of the Chief Arbiter to allow for the game to be rescheduled. 

Players that don’t show for a round and don’t inform the Chief Arbiter will not be allowed to play in the next round. 

Technical regulations

The Championship is an open tournament for players registered by Bermuda federation. 

Time limit per player: 90 minutes for 40 moves + 15 min. for the rest of the game + 30’’ increment for every move starting from move one. 

A player forfeits the game if he hasn’t appeared at his board within half an hour after the start of the game.

The final ranking order of the players is determined by the number of points scored. If at the end of the tournament two or more players are tied for the first place or for any prize, the tie shall be broken as in accordance to the following criteria for Swiss events:

  • Results of direct encounters between the tied players  (applies only if all tied players have played each other),

  • Buccholz Cut 1,

  • Buccholz,

  • The greater number of games played with black,

  • The greater number of wins.

 
Titles - Qualifications

The gold winner receives the title of ”2018 Bermuda National Champion"

Prize fund

1ST PLACE $300.00

2ND PLACE $125.00 

3RD PLACE $75.00 

In addition the gold winner participates in all upcoming 2018 Bermuda Chess Association tournaments free of charge.

Registration deadline

Entries must be sent by 28 April 2018 by email to bermudachess@gmail.com

All entries shall include:

Full name and FIDE ID  (FIDE ID by Bermuda federation is going to be issued to all players that currently don’t have a FIDE ID. )

A registration fee of $50.00 will be applied to all players. 

The registration fee will have to be paid by bank transfer to

Alternatively the registration fee can be paid in cash at Don's Barber Shop 119 Front Street, Hamilton.

Entry Fees for late registration, withdrawal or no show will be charged as follow:

  • Late registration after the closing date: two times of stipulated entry fee

  • Withdrawal after submission of registration: two times of stipulated entry fee 

  • No-show after registration: two times of stipulated entry fee 

Photography

Only photographers expressly authorized by the Chief Arbiter may work in the playing venue.

Flash may be used only during the first ten minutes.

An official photographer, designated by the Organizers with the approval of the Chief Arbiter shall be allowed to take photos at any time during the round without flash.

Please be advised that photographs will be taken at the event for use on the bermudacgess.com website and in the press, and other publications.
