The Bermuda Chess Championship 2017 Invitation

This is the official invitation to all members of Bermuda chess federation of FIDE to participate in the Bermuda Chess Championship 2017

The championships will be held in Hamilton, Bermuda. The dates are May 16th to June 27th 2017.

Playing Venue

The games will take place in the IAS Building East, 44 Church Street East, Hamilton

All games must be played at the playing venue with no exceptions. 

No electronic devices will be allowed at the playing venue. The storage will be provided. 

Tournament schedule

Round 1: Tuesday May 16th, 7:30 pm

Round 2: Tuesday May 23rd, 7:30 pm

Round 3: Tuesday May 30th, 7:30 pm

Round 4: Tuesday June 6th, 7:30 pm

Round 5: Tuesday June 13th, 7:30 pm

Round 6: Tuesday June 20th, 7:30 pm

Round 7: Tuesday June 27th, 7:30 pm

A 5 hours written notice must be given to the Chief Arbiter when a player is unable to attend a round.

In the event that one or both players are unable to make a game, if the player(s) have provided proper notice and both parties are in agreement, it will be up to the discretion of the Chief Arbiter to allow for the game to be rescheduled for the following Sunday @ 5:00pm at the same venue.

Players that don’t show for a round and don’t inform the Chief Arbiter will not be allowed to play in the next round. 

Technical regulations

The Championship is an open tournament for players registered by Bermuda federation. 

Time limit per player: 90 minutes for 40 moves + 15 min. for the rest of the game + 30’’ increment for every move starting from move one. 

A player forfeits the game if he hasn’t appeared at his board within half an hour after the start of the game.

The final ranking order of the players is determined by the number of points scored. If at the end of the tournament two or more players are tied for the first place or for any prize, the tie shall be broken as in accordance to the following criteria for Swiss events:

  • Results of direct encounters between the tied players  (applies only if all tied players have played each other),

  • Buccholz Cut 1,

  • Buccholz,

  • The greater number of games played with black,

  • The greater number of wins.

 
Titles - Qualifications

The gold winner receives the title of ”2017 Bermuda National Champion"

Prize fund

1ST PLACE $300.00

2ND PLACE $125.00 

3RD PLACE $75.00 

In addition the gold winner participates in all upcoming 2017 Bermuda Chess Association tournaments for free.

Registration deadline

Entries must be sent by 14 May 2017 by email to bermudachess@gmail.com

All entries shall include:

Full name and FIDE ID  (FIDE ID by Bermuda federation is going to be issued to all players that currently don’t have a FIDE ID. )

A registration fee of $50.00 will be applied to all players. 

The registration fee will have to be paid by bank transfer to

Alternatively the registration fee can be paid in cash at Don's Barber Shop 119 Front Street, Hamilton.

Entry Fees for late registration, withdrawal or no show will be charged as follow:

  • Late registration after the closing date: two times of stipulated entry fee

  • Withdrawal after submission of registration: two times of stipulated entry fee 

  • No-show after registration: two times of stipulated entry fee 

The new players that are non-members of the Bermuda Chess Association still can register past deadline without penalty fee at the playing venue on May 16 at 7:15 pm.
